Smelling Like a Memory

Some People Are Remembered by Their Scent

Throughout my life, I’ve tried countless perfumes. Some smelled good for a moment. Some felt trendy. Some were simply forgettable.

But over time, I realized the fragrances I truly connect with are never just about smelling “nice".

They’re the ones that leave memories behind.

The kind of scent that becomes attached to a specific moment, a city, a version of yourself.

A perfume that stays on a coat after a long night out. On the pages of a book. On someone’s skin long after they’ve left the room.

I think that’s why scent feels so personal to me. More personal than fashion, sometimes even more personal than music.

Because fragrance has the ability to quietly live inside memory.

There are certain perfumes that instantly transport me somewhere else the moment I smell them again. And the older I get, the more I realize those are the fragrances worth keeping.

Maison Margiela Replica Jazz Club is one of them. Warm tobacco, rum, vanilla and soft smoke.

It smells like dim lights, old leather chairs, jazz playing somewhere in the background and conversations that lasted longer than they should have. There’s something deeply nostalgic about it. Almost cinematic.

Then there’s Killian Angels' Share. Probably one of the most comforting and elegant fragrances I’ve ever worn. Notes of cognac, cinnamon, oak wood and tonka bean make it feel rich and intimate without becoming overwhelming. It reminds me of cold nights, beautiful hotels and that feeling of being completely present in a moment you know you’ll remember later.

And lately, I’ve been obsessed with Yves Saint Laurent Muse.

There’s something incredibly artistic about it. Ink, soft woods and warm resinous notes give it a refined and slightly androgynous elegance that feels very Yves Saint Laurent. It doesn’t smell loud or overly masculine, it smells intelligent, creative and deeply personal.

What I love most is the idea behind it. Yves Saint Laurent always surrounded himself with muses: artists, models, actresses, friends and people who inspired his vision of beauty and style. Women and men with presence. With attitude. With individuality. His muses weren’t simply inspiration, they became part of the identity of the house itself.

And somehow, Muse captures that feeling perfectly.

It smells like someone creative. Someone unforgettable. Like handwritten letters, black ink on white paper, late nights in Paris and the quiet confidence of a person who knows exactly who they are.

I’ve come to realize that the best perfumes aren’t necessarily the loudest or the most expensive.

They’re the ones that become intertwined with your life.

The ones that smell like memories. Like different chapters of who you were.

And maybe, who you still are.
